NFL Stars of the Week – Preseason Week 1

The site will slowly be getting back to our normal coverage, with about one to three posts a week for the next three weeks. Follow the site on twitter @steelersrule125 to get updates whenever a post is made.

The NFL Weekend Stars series will take a look at three offensive and three defensive stars from every week of the season and pre-season. It will also look at one dud from the previous week. I will be keeping track of who appears most on this list to help keep track of the players who made the biggest impacts in the NFL this year. This weeks stars can be seen after the jump.

Offensive Stars (On offense I will try and do 1QB, 1RB, and 1WR but it won’t always be that way)

Star No. 1 – Brian Hoyer, QB, New England Patriots – Hoyer was an impressive 15 for 21 with 171 yards and one TD. He should be able to generate some trade value if he keeps playing this way in the pre-season.

Star No. 2 – Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers – Rivers was an impressive 5 for 6 wih 87 yards and one TD on his only drive. He put up a perfect 158.3 QB rating.

Star No. 3 – Josh Johnson, QB, Tampa Bay – Johnson was impressive both as a passer and a runner. He was 7 for 12 for 108 yards and a TD and also ran for 57 yards on 5 carries, including a very impressive 24 yard run. He will probably be traded on draft day next year to a QB desperate team.

Honorable Mentions: Santana Moss (7 for 64), Taylor Price (5 for 105 and 1TD) and Colt McCoy (9 for 10)

Defensive Stars

Star No. 1 – K.J. Wright, LB, Seattle – Wright posted 8 tackles and was constantly around the ball for theSeahawks.

Star No. 2 – Daryl Gamble, LB, San Diego – Gamble had 6 tackles, 1 of which was a huge 13 yard sack.

Star No. 3 – Ryan Mundy, FS, Pittsburgh – Mundy had 7 tackles, 1 PD, and he looked very good in coverage. This is a good sign because the Steelers might need Mundy to step up this year.

Honorable Mentions: Shawn Merriman (3 tackles, 2 sacks)

Dud of the Week – Dennis Dixon, QB, Pittsburgh – Dixon was trying to make a case to be the #2 QB for the Steelers but he was a woeful 1 for 10 for 29 yards and a QB Rating of 39.6.

If you guys think one of your players had a week worth mentioning, give him a shoutout in the comments section. It’s possible I missed somebody. I think its going to be hard to beat Dixon for D.O.W but lets see if you guys think someone can do it.
